Friday Night Live: Shuswap’s Summer Soundtrack

By Gabrielle Buchholz

Every Friday night during the summer in the North Shuswap, something incredible happens as the sun goes down. Music fills the air. The crowd gathers. The energy builds. And just like that, an ordinary evening becomes something unforgettable.

What began in 2010 as a small outdoor concert at the Fireweed Gallery has grown into one of the Shuswap’s most anticipated traditions. Over the years, it has expanded into a full evening experience—live music, food trucks, a bustling market, and a dance floor that rarely sits empty.

At its core, Friday Night Live is driven by a clear artistic vision: to create a true music festival atmosphere for all to enjoy. It’s a place to discover new sounds, experience rising talent, and relive favourite hits through cover bands that bring a powerful sense of nostalgia. And what keeps it fresh? A commitment to a brand-new lineup every year—no repeats—so every season feels exciting and new.

From high-energy party bands and country favourites to funk, soul, and globally inspired sounds, every Friday offers something different—but always delivers an unforgettable night.

Friday Night Live isn’t just about the music. It’s about the feeling.

Families setting up lawn chairs. Kids dancing in the grass. Friends reconnecting over great food. Visitors discovering the Shuswap for the first time.

And in 2026, organizers are hopeful the event will once again take place in the heart of Scotch Creek—between the Social District and the former Park Store that is now vacant. A backup location at the Provincial Park day-use area ensures the show will go on, no matter what.

What many don’t see is the dedicated team making it all happen.

Friday Night Live is 100% volunteer-run, powered by a non-profit society committed to creating a first-class concert series that remains free for everyone. From grant writing to sponsorship outreach, the work begins months in advance.

Bill Holtby, Chair of Friday Night Live, is the ring leader of a committed board and volunteers that handle everything from logistics to promotion—supported by generous sponsors and donors who believe in the event’s impact. Integral to ensuring great music is Jim Cooperman, artistic director, whose passion and experience help shape each season’s sound and spirit.

This year also marks an exciting step forward in how Friday Night Live connects with its audience. The team has partnered with local web developers inTechrity to launch a brand-new website, making it easier than ever to stay informed and engaged. At the same time, Instagram is being refreshed for a strong summer relaunch, while Facebook continues to keep the community in the loop.

There’s a reason Friday Night Live has become one of the most loved events in the Shuswap.

It’s the music. The people. The atmosphere. The feeling of being part of something bigger than just a night out.

So, bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your dancing shoes.

Because in the Shuswap, the best nights of summer always start the same way:

With live music… on a Friday night.
